Setting Up The Network
For any users needing to access their RVS Mosaics from any other location,
we recommend looking into a remote access program such as
Google Remote Desktop.
Please note that these third-party programs are unaffiliated with RVS Software
and as such we can not always guarantee proper functionality or support.
By default, RVS Mosaics will be located at C:\RVSData
on your
primary computer. (This will be referred to as the "host computer" for the
rest of this document.) It will need to be shared out so that any other
computers (to be referred to as the "workstation") can access the data.
The simplest way to share out your database is to open File Explorer on the
host computer and navigate to your C:\
Drive. Here you should
see a directory name RVSData
. Right-click
on the
folder and then select Properties -> Sharing -> Share...
. You
will then see a box showing who currently can access this directory. In the
textbox, type in Everyone
and then click Add
. You
will also need to set the Permission Level to Read/Write. Finally, click
Share
at the bottom. It should then show you the network address
for your shared folder. Typically this will be something like:
\\MAIN-COMPUTER'S-NAME\RVSData
.
You may also need to navigate to your computer's Network and Sharing Center
and check the Change advanced sharing settings
. Here you should
check to see that both Network Discovery
and File and printer
sharing
are enabled for your Network. Additionally, under All
Networks
ensure that Public folder sharing
is turned on
and Password protected sharing
is turned off. These have been
found to be the most reliable settings for sharing out the RVS Mosaics database.
This should also be repeated on any workstations your are wanting to connect.
This information is not fully representative of all situations. If you
have an IT professional managing your system you should consult with them
before following any of these steps as they may have things set up differently.
